Live/Work on Care Farm near Richmond, Virginia

Full Pocket Farm provides support to folks with a variety of abilities.   We have a small group home at the Farm, conduct workshops, collaborate with local agencies, provide employment, and grow veggies/fruit/flowers. Our seasonal workshop series provides horticulture, arts, and social opportunities in an inclusive environment to over 300 individuals each year.   Our Group Home supports the lives of 3 fantastic individuals. Our Farm is also home to our multi-generational family.

We are looking for a dedicated person to help with a wide range of tasks: farm hand/maintenance, mentoring learners, helping with workshops, and the role of Direct Support Professional (DSP) at the group home.

Compensation includes an amazing private “tiny home” on site (utilities included), and all training to become a DSP. Farm work is in exchange for living expenses, but the DSP work is paid (approximately 24+ hours a week at $20 an hour.)   This is a unique opportunity to share what you know, learn new skills, help enhance the lives of others, and be a part of our family and community.

Applicant should be able to commit to a length of time (due to the costs of training, a year is desirable) and want to enjoy all that our area has to offer. Richmond is less than 30 minutes away, and is full of outdoor, cultural, food and music opportunities. The Blue Ridge Mountains or the Atlantic are 2 hours away. Our little local town, Ashland, is a great community with a restored theater, restaurants, and an Amtrak station! At the Farm we engage in just about every kind of hobby: woodshop, kiln, greenhouse, music, fishing pond…

DSP work entails a background check, CPS search, fingerprinting, CPR/First Aid, good driving record, and Medication Administration training, all of which we provide and pay for.   We are unable to offer insurance, but provide a stipend to help purchase health insurance through the marketplace. You should like people, animals and understand that “farm work” is “hard work!”
